Kapitel 18

1 Und da er hatte3615 ausgeredet1696 mit Saul7586, verband sich7194 das Herz5315 Jonathans3083 mit dem Herzen Davids1732; und Jonathan3083 gewann ihn lieb157 wie sein eigen Herz.

2 Und Saul7586 nahm3947 ihn des Tages3117 und ließ5414 ihn nicht wieder7725 zu seines Vaters1 Haus1004 kommen.

3 Und Jonathan3083 und David1732 machten3772 einen Bund1285 miteinander; denn er hatte160 ihn lieb wie sein eigen Herz5315.

4 Und Jonathan3083 zog6584 aus seinen Rock4055, den er anhatte, und gab5414 ihn David1732, dazu seinen Mantel, sein4598 Schwert2719, seinen Bogen7198 und seinen Gürtel2289.

5 Und David1732 zog aus3318, wohin ihn4421 Saul7586 sandte7971, und hielt sich5869 klüglich7919. Und Saul7586 setzte7760 ihn5869 über die Kriegsleute582; und er gefiel3190 wohl allem Volk5971, auch den Knechten5650 Sauls7586.

6 Es begab sich7725 aber, da er1732 wiederkommen war von des Philisters Schlacht5221, daß die Weiber802 aus3318 allen Städten5892 Israels3478 waren935 gegangen mit Gesang7891 und6430 Reigen4246 dem Könige4428 Saul7586 entgegen7125 mit Pauken8596, mit Freuden8057 und mit Geigen7991.

7 Und die Weiber802 sangen gegeneinander und spielten7832 und sprachen559: Saul7586 hat6030 tausend505 geschlagen5221, aber David1732 zehntausend7233.

8 Da ergrimmete Saul7586 sehr3966, und gefiel5869 ihm das Wort1697 übel3415 und sprach559: Sie5414 haben David1732 zehntausend7233 gegeben5414 und mir tausend505; das Königreich4410 will noch sein werden.

9 Und Saul7586 sah David1732 sauer an von dem Tage3117 und fortan.

10 Des andern Tages4283 geriet6743 der5059 böse7451 Geist7307 von GOtt430 über Saul7586 und weissagete daheim im Hause1004; David1732 aber spielte auf den Saiten mit seiner Hand3027, wie er täglich3117 pflegte. Und Saul7586 hatte einen Spieß2595 in8432 der Hand3027

11 und7586 schoß2904 ihn2595 und gedachte559: Ich will David1732 an die Wand7023 spießen5221. David1732 aber wandte sich5437 zweimal6471 von6440 ihm.

12 Und Saul7586 fürchtete3372 sich vor6440 David1732; denn der HErr3068 war mit ihm und war von Saul7586 gewichen5493.

13 Da tat5493 ihn Saul7586 von sich und setzte7760 ihn zum Fürsten8269 über tausend505 Mann; und er zog aus3318 und ein935 vor6440 dem Volk5971.

14 Und David1732 hielt sich klüglich7919 in all seinem Tun1870; und der HErr3068 war mit ihm.

15 Da nun Saul7586 sah7200, daß er sich1481 so3966 klüglich7919 hielt7919, scheuete er sich vor6440 ihm.

16 Aber ganz Israel3478 und Juda3063 hatte David1732 lieb157; denn er zog aus3318 und ein vor6440 ihnen her935.

17 Und2428 Saul7586 sprach559 zu David1732: Siehe, meine größte1419 Tochter1323 Merob will ich dir zum Weibe802 geben5414; sei nur freudig und führe3898 des HErrn3068 Kriege4421! Denn Saul7586 gedachte559: Meine Hand3027 soll nicht an ihm sein, sondern die Hand3027 der Philister6430.

18 David1732 aber antwortete559 Saul7586: Wer bin ich, und was ist mein Leben2416 und Geschlecht4940 meines Vaters1 in Israel3478, daß ich des Königs4428 Eidam2860 werden soll?

19 Da aber die Zeit6256 kam, daß Merob, die Tochter1323 Sauls7586, sollte David1732 gegeben5414 werden, ward sie Adriel5741, dem Meholathiter4259, zum Weibe802 gegeben5414.

20 Aber Michal4324, Sauls7586 Tochter1323, hatte den David1732 lieb157. Da das1697 Saul7586 angesagt5046 ward, sprach er5869: Das ist recht3474.

21 Ich will sie559 ihm2859 geben5414, daß sie8147 ihm zum Fall4170 gerate, und7586 der Philister6430 Hände3027 über ihn kommen. Und7586 sprach559 zu David1732: Du sollst heute3117 mit der andern mein Eidam werden.

22 Und559 Saul7586 gebot6680 seinen Knechten5650: Redet mit David1732 heimlich3909 und sprechet: Siehe, der König4428 hat1696 Lust2654 zu dir, und alle seine Knechte5650 lieben157 dich; so sei nun des Königs4428 Eidam2859!

23 Und die Knechte5650 Sauls7586 redeten solche Worte1696 vor5869 den Ohren241 Davids1732. David1732 aber sprach559: Dünket euch2859 das1697 ein Geringes sein7043, des Königs4428 Eidam zu sein? Ich aber bin ein armer7326, geringer7034 Mann376.

24 Und die Knechte5650 Sauls7586 sagten5046 ihm wieder und sprachen559: Solche Worte1697 hat1696 David1732 geredet.

25 Saul7586 sprach559: So saget zu David1732: Der König4428 begehret keine Morgengabe4119 ohne hundert3967 Vorhäute6190 von den Philistern6430, daß man559 sich5307 räche5358 an des Königs4428 Feinden341. Denn Saul7586 trachtete2803, David1732 zu fällen durch der Philister6430 Hand3027.

26 Da sagten seine Knechte5650 David1732 an5046 solche Worte1697 und deuchte3474 David1732 die Sache gut sein5869, daß er des Königs4428 Eidam2859 würde. Und die Zeit3117 war noch nicht aus4390.

27 Da machte sich David1732 auf6965 und6430 zog3212 hin mit seinen Männern582 und schlug5221 unter den Philistern zweihundert3967 Mann376. Und David1732 brachte935 ihre Vorhaute und vergnügte dem Könige4428 die Zahl4390, daß er des Königs4428 Eidam würde. Da gab5414 ihm2859 Saul7586 seine Tochter1323 Michal4324 zum Weibe802.

28 Und Saul7586 sah7200 und merkte3045, daß der HErr3068 mit David1732 war. Und Michal4324, Sauls7586 Tochter1323, hatte ihn lieb157.

29 Da7586 fürchtete3372 sich Saul7586 noch3254 mehr vor6440 David1732 und1732 ward3117 sein Feind341 sein Leben lang.

30 Und da der Philister6430 Fürsten8269 auszogen3318, handelte7919 David1732 klüglicher denn alle Knechte5650 Sauls7586, wenn1767 sie3966 auszogen3318, daß sein3365 Name8034 hochgepreiset ward.

Chapter 18

1 WHEN David had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.

2 And Saul took him that day, and would not let him return to his father's house.

3 Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because Jonathan loved David as his own soul.

4 And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword and his bow and his girdle.

5 And David went out wherever Saul sent him and was victorious; so that Saul appointed him over the men of war, and he found favor in the sight of all the people and also in the sight of Saul's servants.

6 And it came to pass as they returned, when David came back from the slaughter of the Philistines, the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul with tambourines, and with cymbals, and were rejoicing.

7 And the women sang as they played, and laughed, saying, Saul has slain by thousands, and David by tens of thousands.

8 And Saul was very wroth, and this saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands; and what more can he have but the kingdom?

9 And Saul began to envy David from that day forward.

10 And it came to pass after some days that an evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of his house, and David was playing music in his presence, as at other times; and there was a javelin in Saul's hand.

11 And Saul threw the javelin; for he said, I will pin David to the wall. But David evaded it twice.

12 And Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, and had departed from Saul.

13 Therefore Saul removed him from his presence, and made him a commander over a thousand; and he went out to war and came in before the people.

14 And David was a man of understanding in all his ways; and the LORD was with him.

15 And when Saul saw that he was exceedingly wise, he was afraid of him.

16 But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out to war and came in before them.

17 And Saul said to David, Behold my elder daughter Nadab, I will give her to you to wife, but you must become a commander-in-chief for me and fight the LORD'S battles. For Saul said, Let not my hand be against him, but let the hand of the Philistines be against him.

18 And David said to Saul, Who am I? And what have I done, or what is my life or my father's family in Israel, that I should be son-in-law to the king?

19 But it came to pass at the time when Nadab, Saul's daughter should have been given to David, she was given to Azriel the Meholathite to wife.

20 And Malchel Saul's daughter loved David; and they told Saul, and the thing pleased him.

21 And Saul said, I will give her to him, that she may be a hindrance to him and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Wherefore Saul said to David, You shall this day be my son-in-law in doing one of two things.

22 And Saul commanded his servants to speak to David the son of Jesse, saying, Behold the king has delight in you, and all his servants love you; now therefore be the king's son-in-law.

23 And Saul's servants spoke these words to David. And David said, Seems it to you a light thing to be a king's son-in-law, seeing that I am a poor man and despised?

24 And the servants of Saul told him, saying, These are the words which David spoke.

25 And Saul said, Thus shall you say to David, The king does not desire any dowry, but two hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of his enemies. But King Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.

26 And when the servants of Saul told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king's son-in-law; but the time had not come.

27 Wherefore David arose and went out, he and his men, and slew two hundred men of the Philistines; and David brought their foreskins and gave them to the king, that he might be the king's son-in-law. And Saul gave him Malchel his daughter to wife.

28 land Saul saw and knew that the LORD was with David and that Malchel Saul's daughter loved David exceedingly.

29 And Saul was still the more afraid of David; and Saul became David's enemy thenceforth.

30 Then the princes of the Philistines went forth raiding; and it came to pass at the time they went forth raiding, David was more successful than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was highly honored.
